Exhibitions at the Casa Fiat de Cultura

Modernism appeared in Brazil as a harbinger of significant transformations in society and culture. Casa Fiat de Cultura highlights the expression of this movement in design, through a historical collection of chairs from various private collections. “Pioneers of Brazilian Design – Modernist Chairs at Casa Fiat de Cultura” brings together 50 chairs signed by great names in design that created a new aesthetic value for everyday objects. The works on display cover a period of 60 years, between the 1920s and the 1980s, and are based on an innovative and modern look, opposed to the academicism and aesthetics that prevailed in the country until then, of European influence. The show, which will be on display until August 27, 2023, is part of the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Conjunto Moderno da Pampulha and is held in collaboration with the “Museu da Cadeira Brasileira – MuC”.

“Fístula” is the name of the exhibition by Iago Gouvêa, exhibited in the Piccola Galleria of the Casa Fiat de Cultura, which includes 18 ceramic sculptures of mice and one of sheep. The plastic artist uses ancient techniques to produce contemporary pieces that command attention for their visuality and subtlety, while at the same time promoting reflections on the relationship between humans and other animals. The works, although causing some strangeness due to the deformities of the small animals, are balanced by the delicate appearance of the ceramics. Between white and gray walls and cubes with stainless steel tops, the artist creates an atmosphere reminiscent of scientific laboratories, an environment in which some animals spend their entire life cycle. The plot from this habitat co-inhabited by humans and animals unites a poetic universe and serves as an input for the production of the artist’s works.
