Azul operates inaugural flight between Cajazeiras (PB) and Recife (PE)

ONE Azul made today (1) the inaugural flight between Cajazeiras, in the interior of Paraíba, and Recife, in Pernambuco. The launch of the new route marks the return of the commercial airline network to the city after 60 years without scheduled flights to the region. The route will run three times a week in both directions, always on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Cajazeiras is the second city in the Sertão da Paraíba to be considered with a commercial Azul flight, since from August 2021, Patos also maintains a route to the capital of Pernambuco. Upon arrival at Recife, a strategic hub for the airline, passengers will be able to connect to other destinations in Brazil.

The negotiations for the operation in Cajazeiras took place between Azul and the government of Paraíba and are part of an aggressive move to expand the air network in the State. In June, the company created a regional hub in the city of Campina Grande with the addition of 290 new flights to cities such as Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador.

Azul is recognized for the expertise and transformation it has promoted in recent years in regional aviation in Brazil and it could not be different within the Northeast. Cajazeiras, we hope to strengthen existing connections and create business, tourism and educational opportunities for the entire region,” says the company’s director of institutional relations, César Grandolfo.

This expansion results from a successful partnership with Azul Linhas Aéreas, which is producing remarkable results for the industry. We are sure that, united, we will continue to achieve much more and strengthen our Paraíba on the most diverse fronts”, emphasizes the Secretary of State for Tourism and Economic Development of Paraíba, Rosália Lucas.

Cajazeiras: end of air isolation

cajazeiras it is located 470 kilometers from the capital João Pessoa and has a population of 62 thousand inhabitants, being the seventh in population in the State. The launch of the flight responds to the demand to end the air isolation and to interconnect the inland municipalities with the capitals, as the presence of air routes directly affects economic development, enabling business and the expansion of Tourism.

Recognized as a culturally rich city, it is often called the “City that taught Paraíba to read” because of its strong educational tradition. One of the main tourist attractions is the Cathedral Church of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, an example of Brazilian religious architecture.

In addition, the city is close to State of Ceara, about 40 kilometers from Icó. The city of Susa is less than 90 km away. Cajazeiras has a strong local economy, with many businesses focused on agriculture, retail and services. In terms of education, Cajazeiras is home to several higher education institutions. The Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) has a campus in the city. There is also the Federal Institute of Paraíba (IFPB), known for its engineering and technology programs. Faculdade Santa Maria (FSM) is the first private college in the city and stands out in the field of health, especially in nursing and medicine.
